Stage 2 is currently developing a Virtual Science Lab (VSL) tablet application for the US Department of Education’s National Assessment of Educational Progress, an authentic and engaging means of assessing 8th grade students’ knowledge and skills in science and engineering through a first-person interactive virtual laboratory.

Public school students are tested annually under eNAEP, also known as “The Nation’s Report Card.” But educators have come to understand that filling ovals on an answer sheet doesn’t always give insight into students’ real world understanding. For science tasks especially, they needed a way to simulate lab environments. The VSL environment delivers a rich 3D interactive chemistry lab. Behind the scenes, every action of the student is recorded and stored so assessment professionals can review and compare student interactions.
